Koa (Acacia Koa) is a hardwood that grows exclusively in the Hawaiian Islands. The tree grows in moist soils from sea level to high elevations on volcanic mountains, reaching heights of 80-90 feet and diameters of 36-60 inches. The grain is tight and interlocked, often with a curly or "fiddleback" figure. Add colors from gold to chocolate brown, and you have a very spectacular wood.
While always difficult to obtain, millions of new trees have been planted to assure Koa a good future.
Through 40 years of collecting, Wilkinson Koa Furniture, has had the good fortune of amassing an excellent selection of Koa, most of it curly. This ensures there is always wood of the color and figure to compliment each project design.
